As catering equipment suppliers for commercial gas catering equipment in the UK we are always asked about the regulations regarding gas equipment for a caterers kitchen.
For any caterer an understanding of these regulations is essential. We supply gas catering equipment throughout the UK and what we find with customers is that they do not do their research when they are setting up a new kitchen, adding or replacing a piece of gas catering equipment.
With most new kitchens the current gas regulations should have been taken into account but this is not always the case. When an item is being replaced in an existing kitchen don’t assume that it is just a matter of buying a replacement and getting it fitted.
A qualified gas engineer will not fit your new replacement item of equipment if your kitchen does not meet the current gas regulations.
Some of the main things that need looking at are extraction, air input, gas interlock, supply gas meter and pipe work. If in doubt the advice should be sought of a suitably qualified gas engineer that is registered for commercial catering equipment.
If you are looking to buy second hand equipment this also needs to comply with the current gas regulations. We sell second hand equipment, as well as new, and all our equipment complies with the latest regulations but some equipment offered for sale does not, so check before you buy.
